1707 Golf Society 2004

Kenny & John

SCOTS GET FRIGHT, BUT TAKE CUP.

Despite their absent powerhouse Steve Bone, a couragous Scottish side stormed the afternoon 2 ball foursomes to take the 1707 Cup North of the border for another year. However it could have all been so different with England producing some stunning golf in the Saturday morning singles to tie the match 191 points to 191 points before the afternoon session. Lee Shimwell played to a gross 74 to put England right on track before the afternoon when Scotland delivered some great scores from Philip Brown and Stuart McCallum ensured the winning margin at Wychwood would be 14 points.
Kenny Scotland Captain was very happy with the "right outcome"
"Gutted" That was England Captain's 'John Tyerman's' comment after graciously accepting defeat at the Cheshire course. He said ' we move forward from here, and practice more. 2005 will be a different story.'

Pete Blake retained the "Blake Challange Tankard" for the 4th year after pipping Vince McVerry to the bottom spot. Fridays practice round suggested Ian Letham was certain to take the tankard, but with some good drives and much safety play Ian was thrilled to finish with 28 points.

Scotland (312) v England (298), margin 14 points

The 2005 Event - Well the process for organizing the Cup for the coming year has now started. Peter Blake and Raymond Hay are the respective England and Scotland Captains for 2005 and after chatting with Pete he has some good ideas with somewhere in the LAKE DISTRICT high on the list.
Currently the Website is getting a major overhaul and I'm hoping to introduce 2005 Cup Event Progress which will give use all the details on what Pete and Raymond have been doing in getting the next event organised. I'll also be sharpening all the pages so you may find a few all over the place at the moment. If anyone has any questions or ideas drop me a note. Posted 27th Nov 2004
